A Friendly Nod Other Dot Connectors

Posted by libhom Friday, September 28, 2007

I would like to say thanks for the kind words at Some Notes on Living. More importantly, the actual blog posting brings up a very important point about "connecting dots."

Many of us liberals and progressives can get so caught up in vital, individual issues that our analysis fails to include how the issues are connected. For instance, many on the left can get so justifiably upset about what is going on in Burma that they forget to follow the money trail.

The blog also has an excellent post about a dot connector whose fame is growing, Naomi Klein. Her book, The Shock Doctrine, Rise of Disaster Capitalism, connects a lot of seemingly unrelated events and entities to show how the far right has exploited natural and human created disasters in order to ram unpopular and unwise policies down the throats of people worldwide.

In a previous posting here, I mentioned an excellent example of dot connecting by Dennis Kucinich at the YouTube/CNN Democratic Presidential Debate.

Well, we have to understand the connection between global warring and global warming. Because when we start talking about wars for oil, we're essentially keeping the same approach to energy.

Since Kucinich's statement, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now has been asking a lot of questions about the connections between "global warring and global warming." Goodman has an excellent grasp of which ideas in our society are the most significant and how to confront people on all sides of issues with their implications.

  1. GLH, ty for finding the Naomi Klein Post and for yours as well. Kucinich is the ONLY candidate i could vote for without holding my nose. Its taken yrs to realize and de colonize my own mind regarding who the democrats really are..I grew up a "kennedy kid" but really the only Party albeit in shambles that reflects my values is the Green Party. Honestly if a clinton is "annointed" i probably will not vote as a protest for the FIRST time in my life.

Supporting war, no friend of LGBT ,owned by lobbiests all of em realy except Kucinich. But if Hillary is the candidate that means a dynasty for ameriKa and i could not be complicit in that. Finally i see through it. It took a long time. We want to believe these people are something they are NOT.
Our long struggle for civil rights is another thing..as a 50 yr old life long activist..wtf do they not get ? And the sinister exploitation of the fundie nut jobs for votes..our society has sunk sooo low.

I am afraid , it will implode before it gets better - last night on Moyers Journal..a guy John Bogles explained we have gone to a financial services economy - this subtracts from our society and we are heading for a big time painful crash..its simply is unsustainable..

  2. a day without Democracy is just not a day to get out of bed in my world.

Kucinich is the only person i sent money too, I wish he would run independent..dammit. Also there is link on my blog..for convenience for a campaign called only6dollars it is for public financing of elections and has free action kits.
Dennis is what our country needs desparately. I want to visuilize this happening..i run into too many older LGBTs who do not get that Hillary is not our friend..never really has been...sigh.and that the HRC has sold us out in many ways.

As for the log cabinettes they need psychological help....I really like your blog ! And shall be dialoging regaularly with you and your readers hopefully..as you can see i am quite the..*g* schmoozer
