This whole thing gets worse and worse and worse.

I just don't understand how anyone can defend that church at this point.

  2. Well, God bless Sinead O'Connor! We have to admire the courage of that gal to speak out against the Catholic Church leadership. It is, of course, a political/cult kind of leadership, and she will/has become a target of a lot of hatred for her words. Makes me wish I had bought some of her records.

  4. I think that I told you before that I "personally" left the church after a Priest that baptized not only me but 2 of my 4 children was charged with sexual abuse. He died long before it was ever brought to trial.
My husband still goes and our children attend Catholic school because it's important to him.

I would never let any of my children be Alter servers though, and they have been asked.

I agree with Sinead that victims need to have the truth out there. As a survivor of sexual abuse myself, I struggle still to this day, 34 years after it began with keeping it a 'secret'.

Of course, this just isn't going on in the Catholic Church. It's everywhere. My oldest niece currently has the Mormon church by the balls because she was sexually abused.
I DO NOT agree with what she is doing. Basically blackmailing the LDS church for money in exchange for keeping her mouth shut. And it wasn't just her. 7 other women came forward at the same time. All silenced. The others are still active members so I'm assuming some intimidation is being used on them.

The whole thing just makes me sick..

  6. All of this is reprehensible and inexcusable. You'd listed crimes by the Catholic Church a couple posts back, one you omitted was its part in Genocide of Indians here in the Americas. The Church pushed conversion and excused mass slaughter and is complicit in Genocide, the current Nazi Pope in a South American speech expressed admiration for these despicable acts.

OTOH when there is a major family crisis I'm in a church kneeling and saying Hail Mary's.

    Go figure.

  8. I haven't thought of Sinead O'Connor in a long time. She sure was ahead of her time. I saw that SNL episode (that you have posted further down the page) where she tore the Pope in half. I remember thinking at the time, "hmmm, I wonder if she's gonna catch any flak for this."

  10. I, too, remember that notorious SNL episode. Sinead was unfairly labeled as a nut, and I think it actually hurt her career. So I was glad to see her all these years later speaking with the same conviction. Sinead isn't the nut--it's these damaged, repressed priests!
