My Letter to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee

Posted by libhom Monday, January 30, 2006

I sent the DSCC the following letter and used their pre-paid envelope to do it.

--------------------------------------------------------

I am shocked and horrified that the Senate Democrats failed to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to the US Supreme Court despite the fact that there are more than enough Democrats in the Senate to accomplish the task.

They should be ashamed of themselves. Every Senator who voted against the Alito filibuster violated his or her oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. There is no excuse for this dishonorable and unpatriotic behavior.

It also represents a failure of the Democratic Party as institution. The Democratic Party constantly pays lip-service to its core constituencies while caving to the Religious Right and corporate donors. Symbolic votes by some Democrats against Alito are not enough. The party as an institution has an inescapable patriotic duty to do everything in its power to block dishonest and dangerous extremists like Alito from the US Supreme Court.

How many times will the Democratic Party betray me as a gay man, an atheist, a liberal, and an American? How many times will so many Democrats kick me in the teeth and then expect me to say “thank you” and write them checks? Do you really think I want a penny of my money to go to supporting people like Robert Byrd who embraced many of the KKK's core values (e.g. racism, sexism, homophobia, and Christian supremacy) by voting to confirm Alito?

Instead, I will give money to Green Party candidates who are running against Senators who did not vote for the Alito filibuster.

Please take me off of your mailing list.

  2. ...and, based on your troll-like ratings abuse behavior on that dirty "Dem" board (dKos), to hell with everyone who disagrees with you, eh? -- even if they share the same politics and work as hard (or harder) than you do to make the world a better place?

Yes, you'll feel right at home with the Naderlings.

  4. Two of the words you used to describe yourself was as a gay man and an atheist. Those words actually imply you are the extremist. Alito is a good decent man who may not find it constitutionally right to accept and to promote many of the extreme programs you want. An overwhelming part of america is not gay and conservatively 70% of America believes in God. So I ask you, who is really the extremist?

Ruth Bader Ginsberg is by far much more of an extremist than Alito. She is for Co-ed prisons, lowering the age of consent to 12 among some other startling views. You would champion her as a sound judge yet these examples along with others would not be considered conforming.

What gay people need to understand is that most of america thankfully still believes homosexuality is an abomination. You are the fringe not the norm, your viewpoint is totally screwed up. Quite frankly I wish the democratic party would have tried a filibuster. The whole party is in serious decline because a few (namely Kerry, Kennedy, Schumer, Feinstein) among others have gone off the deep end. You are losing seats in every election because of this. The democratic party looks to most of the country as a power hungry, Bush hating, no agenda or solution, trash talking, America hating party. Good luck as you continue to push for this behavior, it is only blowing up in your face.

LOL! Relevance to the United States Constitution? None.

Hey, extremism exists in probably can continue relating to them without getting either caught up in their rant or repulsed by it.

We're people; Homo Sapiens; descendants of single celled organisms which have evolved over hundreds of millions of years. We're still learning and we need to keep that in mind when confronted by those who claim to KNOW our purpose in the Universe.

Here's a hint anonymous: whatever Your purpose is, is whatever You have decided it to be.

Same goes for everyone. Including B-G's bizarrely framed opinion on the age of consent. I emphatically do not subscribe to the Living Constitution school. If we want that Primary Legal Document changed to reflect our society, we have the tool of the Amendment Process already in place. Your bringing up the Wingnut misrepresentation of B-G's views on the matter just shows you're speakin' without thinking about what is really happening. It isn't hard to do. It's the responsibility of each of us to understand words and ideas both in a context, something you espouse when it fits your own purposes, and in empirically that is lacking in your comment.

Alito's record tends towards supporting ONE BRANCH, the Executive, to the domination of the other TWO BRANCHES. He IS an intelligent and, as far as I can tell, well-meaning Judge. We've no choice now but to hope he understands that his opinions should be based on what is written in the USC, instead of simply what he thinks should be reflected from
    Society.

  8. I would like some data from the LIBs...

What percentage of Homo's are LIB's?

Not just how they vote on Homo things but do they have the mind of a typical LIB...

Some LIB may be able to get some Gov cash to study this but I bet I know the answer.

Is this a statistical indicator that proves that LIBs who dont consider themselves as gay are defective in some other way?

    Its a good question, no?

We may not have a political choice here. It may be that your born a LIB like your born a homo.

Could it be that many of the LIBs who dont consider themselves as gay are in fact BI or some other strange thing that we havent figured out yet?
