Ron Paul has a swarm of zealots on the Internet, spewing pro-Paul propaganda in all sorts of liberal and progressive forums. The Paul worshipers will accurately point out his opposition to the Iraq War and the Unpatriotic Act, but they conveniently omit the vast majority of Paul's views, which are hateful and wacky right-wing. The deception is starting to offend a lot of liberals, and I'm one of them. After all, if Paul could get a 75% rating in 2005 from the “Family Research Council,” a Christian Right hate-group, that should give you some idea of where Paul really stands.

Here are some other ratings of interest:

  • Secular Coalition for America: 20% (2004)

  • Americans for the Arts Action Fund: 0% (2000, 01, 02, 03, 04)

  • Leadership Conference on Civil Rights: 38% (2005)

  • Human Rights Campaign: 25% (2003-04), 0% in previous years

  • John Birch Society: 100% (2004-2006 in quarterly ratings, except for 88% in Spring 04)

  • National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws: 14% (2004), 30% (2005)

  • Campaign for America's Future: 0% (2005-06, energy issues)

  • Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America: F (2006)

Ok I dont feel like looking through them all but this is the wording of the law you cited as "coerced prayer".

  4. I can't find verification of your NORML rating of Ron Paul, but if it helps you any, you'll see that Ron Paul has been given money by NORML's PAC ($1,000, the same amount that they gave to Barney Frank) three out of the four years that they have distributed money to federal candidates (2002, 2004, and 2006). http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6960

Also, as of September 21, 2006 (the last time the page was updated), Ron Paul has been declared a "NORML Friendly Candidate." http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6959

Ron Paul is also the candidate who consistently introduces and sponsors bills to legalize hemp production in the U.S.

Ron Paul also vocally opposes the drug war. See his column comparing the current approach to the war on terror to the failed (and immoral) war on drugs, here's an excerpt:

"In the last 30 years, we have spent hundreds of billions of dollars on a failed war on drugs. This war has been used as an excuse to attack our liberties and privacy. It has been an excuse to undermine our financial privacy while promoting illegal searches and seizures with many innocent people losing their lives and property."

As for Ron Paul and homophobia, he has said that only “homosexual . . . and heterosexual behavior that is disruptive should be dealt with. It isn’t the issue of homosexuality, it’s the concept and understanding of individual rights.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2vnm9K5b8w

  6. It's becoming more and more clear that modern libertarianism is simply Republicanism that's even more dangerous, repellent, reactionary, hypocritical, and antithetical to everything that's made America decent. It's virulent, angry Republican.

The wording of the amendment is deceptive. It's intent is to bring organized prayer in the public schools in order to coerce children into praying.

spencer: anyone who supports the military ban, opposes legislation outlawing workplace discrimination, opposes hate crimes laws, and uses the power of the purse to oppose same sex couples adopting children is a vicious and fanatical homophobe.

Yes, Repugs and Dems both support hate crime laws because they are one in the same; they are both working towards fascism. Wake up.

  30. What you have shown does not contradict Ron Paul being a libertarian. What is with you left-liberals trying to define away libertarianism into something that it is not? Your idea of individual freedom is the use of government force for your own cultural and social leftism, very similar to the neoconservatives who like to use government force aboard. Ron Paul's social views are compatible with libertarianism because he wants to decentralize them as much as possible. It is too bad that most liberals have not figured out that too much power in government is a bad thing. President Bush should show everyone that. But liberals, just like neoconservatives, like government's power of coercion. Liberals might not like dropping bombs and shooting people in places like Iraq, but they sure like to use it in a concealed way domestically.

  31. libhom Says:
  32. Coercing children to pray in school is not libertarian.

Opposing the right to choose on abortion is not libertarian.

Posting the "Ten Commandments" in a courtroom, a government endorsement of religion, is not libertarian.

Supporting the military ban on gays and lesbians is not libertarian.

Using federal power to tell a local government not to allow same-sex couples to adopt is not libertarian.

I was a libertarian a couple of decades ago. I know of what I speak.

  33. Unknown Says:
  34. Ok, so lets say you disagree with some of Ron Paul's views. Who are you gonna get into office? Kucinich? Cause thats the only other candidate that you can count on to make any real changes once their in and conservative America will NEVER let it happen.

Hillary wants to censor radio, cable television, and video games. Also, I can guarantee you she won't stop providing subsidies to dead or dying industries. She'll just bow down and kiss the unions and special interest groups asses and will waste our tax dollars in the process.
When most of the more liberal congress is pushing for impeachment she won't because shes too afraid of the political consequences. Obama is stuck in the special interest groups' pockets to and is afraid of having a conscience.

That is what I am so tired of with the Democrats. I not only voted Democrat in 04, I went to two John Kerry rallies and was protesting the invasion of Iraq the day after it happened in downtown Cleveland (my senior year of high school). Am I a liberal? Yes. More than that I am for freedom and I can't trust these yellow bellied Democrats to actually stand up for something.

I can't trust them to stop the surveillance and restore habeas corpus. I can't trust them to take control of the government and stop all this waste.

They'll cower in the corner afraid that they might upset and offend someone and because of that they will never get in. The Democratic candidates take just as many big money contributions as the Republicans and I can't tell who is funding them (and so who will control them) and their voting records are all over the charts based on what their advisers tell them is a safe position to take.

Screw safe. Ron Paul has a consistent voting record. In the end I have to make a choice of seeing most of our freedoms coming back at the cost of some money going to minorities and special interest groups or take a chance with Hillary/Obama which is a ticket that will either not make it (which will leave a neocon in office)or won't do a damn thing when they get in.

Is it not clear that the police and government are doing more harm to the people that need the
protection? I can't trust Hillary/Obama to have the spine to stop it. How about we stop the Iraq war, stop the war on drugs, stop racial profiling, stop the dividing of the people through
group mentality, overturn the Patriot Act, restore Habeas Corpus? After we restore basic civil liberties and bring
the money home to be kept by the citizens, then we can worry about affirmative action, gay marriage, and Roe vs. Wade and other
issues that us liberals hold sacred.

  35. libhom Says:
  36. Ron Paul is even less likely to get the GOP nomination than Kucinich is to get the Democratic nod. Most Democrats agree with Kucinich but have been too timid to vote for the candidate they really want.

On the other hand, Ron Paul's views offend the vast majority of Republicans, and he certainly can't argue that he is electable.

Ron Paul's bigotry may seem acceptable if you are not the target of it. But, being an atheist and being queer, I would have to be mentally ill in order to actually support that kind of bigoted religious extremist. David Duke is against the war (and agrees with Paul on the vast majority of other the issues), but I wouldn't vote for him either.

Whoever this homo-erotic liberal is, thank GOD their opinions are only available on these queer new inventions called blogs. If you had any intelligence whatsoever, you would know that Ron Paul is the only answer to every single Presidential candidate out there. I'm guessing you support socialist Hilary, Barrack Hussein Obama, John "Hedge Fund" Edwards. Good luck with that.

  42. I am Pro-choice, I am pro-gay rights, I am pro-environment, and I am pro-personal liberties. I have been a Green Party member for 8 years and I am also Pro-Ron Paul.

I would urge you fellow left-wingers to educate yourself on exactly what Ron Paul's viewpoints are before spouting anti-Ron Paul rhetoric. For one, Ron Paul does not wish the federal government to hear any cases regarding abortion. In fact, he doesn't want the federal government to have anything to do with many of these issues you speak of. The worst I can see coming from this, is some state like Alabama making abortion illegal. Fortunately, groups like Planned Parenthood will still be allowed to legally operate and will be able to come up with some van-pool service to have the procedure done where it is legal. It won't cost these patients any more because the costs will be spread out throughout the organization. Consider that most people in this country are Pro-Choice, so I don't know what you are so worried about. Let democracy handle it.

Hillary is a Neocon. Barack Obama has no stance on anything and I am convinced he will not really solve anything. You need to wake-up and realize that big corporations and the media have joined up and have completely ravaged our political system. This war is unconstitutional. The wars our CIA has fought for the last 50-60 years are unconstitutional. It is unconstitutional for our government to spend money on mercenaries in Iraq and Latin American (did you know they have been in Latin America fighting our wars too?? Did you even know these wars were occuring? This is exactly what the constitution is there for and neither party is standing up to protect it.) There are no electable democrats who wish to fix this, Ron Paul is the only candidate I would ever consider voting for in this election.

ARe rights are being taken and are monetery system is being destroyed because of people liek you allowing the government to control our lives and make us do as the believe. The government need to serve the people not us to serve them. Ron Paul is trying to do that the best he can while every other canidate is into creating more law and policing the world when we need to focus on america because it is runnign away from us.

Especially when most of his ideas are crackpot, homophobic, racist, and abhorrent! He's not a good candidate just because he's a republican who doesn't look exactly like the rest of them.

Also, I LOVE the name of your blog! At some point I was like, "Ha! Godless liberal! You could totally call me that. That applies to me! That's not even offensive!"

"drowning the government in a bathtub" suggests an anarcho-capitalist society. after reading some non-biased material on Paul, i'm convinced that that is what he wants. also, to persecute blacks, gays, atheists, etc without pesky laws getting in the way.
