Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and the Leadership Conference for Healthcare are promoting a national call in day this Thursday for HR676, Rep. Conyers' single payer healthcare bill. If the bill number sounds cryptic, it is often called "Medicare for All" by the general public. They are seeking co-sponsors for this vitally important legislation.
What Is HR676?
Michael Moore's Action Alert for HR676 has an excellent brief description:
Under H.R. 676 [Text of Bill], Medicare would be extended and improved so that all individuals residing in the United States would receive high quality and affordable health care services. They would receive all medically necessary services by the physicians of their choice, with no restrictions on what providers they could visit. If implemented, the United States National Health Insurance Act would cover primary care, dental, mental health, prescription drugs, and long term care.
What Do I Do Thursday?
First, find out if your member of the House is a co-sponsor. (Library of Congress website)
Then, from a PDA Email:
February 12, 2009: Call Congress, and the President
Congressional switchboard: 202-225-3121
(ask for your representative’s office)
If your member is a current co-sponsor, thank your rep. and ask him or her to stand firm for HR 676 and actively seek additional co-sponsors.
If your congressmember is not a current co-sponsor, ask that representative to represent you by co-sponsoring the legislation this session.

What If I Read This After Thursday or Think I Will Be Busy On Thursday?
Go ahead and call now. The most important thing is to maximize the number of people supporting the legislation. The exact day is icing on the proverbial cake.
