Here in New York, our "Democratic" Governor is slashing government services and laying people off in the middle of a deep recession. In California, students are engaging in perfectly reasonable protests against astronomical college tuition increases (the University of California system calls its tuition "fees" in order to cloud the issue). In states all over the country, budget cutting has been the main approach to dealing with the recession.
Why?
The state budget gaps easily could be eliminated by making the rich pay something a little closer to their fair share in taxes. These budget cuts are completely unnecessary.
The rich's share of our nation's wealth and income keeps growing, while the middle class and poor both are losing their share compared to previous decades. The rich used to pay much higher taxes, which they deserved to pay, given how much they leech off of the rest of us.
Yet, the corporate media and politicians in both parties are treating fair taxation for the rich as a taboo topic. The corporate media are owned by the rich, and campaign contributions from the rich buy off the politicians.
Talk about horrible human consequences from blatant political corruption.

Once again, college will only be for the very wealthy, insuring that the lower classes keep their place.

We are afflicted by a 'parasite class' who think nothing of sucking every last modicum of capital and wealth from this country.
