This just in from Cindy Sheehan:
March 20th, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Monday, March 15th, Camp OUT NOW, a Peace Camp erected by US Citizens on the lawn of the Washington Monument, was denied by the National Park Service its legal rights (based on National Park Service regulation 7.96) to erect temporary tents.
According to case law, tents are able to be erected as long as there is no sleeping—the Park Service forced the campers to take down the tents Monday afternoon immediately after they were set-up.
“On the 7th anniversary of an illegal war that has killed over a million people and in the shadow of the government that commits crimes on a daily basis, we will claim our legal rights to establishment an anti-war camp, and we expect to do so unmolested by law enforcement,” said Cindy Sheehan, National Director of Peace of the Action.
Peace of the Action is inviting all concerned citizens to join us at Camp this evening to help us fight the arbitrary enforcement of national law.
The action will take place Saturday night, March 20th beginning at 8pm.
Our government really is trudging its way towards dictatorship.
All of Barack Obama's campaign rhetoric about "change" is starting to seem like a sarcastic performance art piece.

I've been against the Iraq War, PATIONATELY against it, since day -100. It has never made ANY sense to me, no matter which one of a 1000 different angles you choose to look at it from. Only the blindest warmongers RW'ers even try to defedn it, and I've had many of them concede to my points against it.
That being said, I've never considered Sheehan to be decent, or even acceptable, spokesperson for the anti-war movement. I realize that a lot of my information about her comes from the RW press (though I do try to comensate for that) and I would never presume to judge her as a person or a mother, I have never felt that she was the right person, or anything short of the perfectly WORNG person, for that role.
She's a sympathetic figure, to be sure, and I wouldn't trade places with her for anything in the world, but I'd like to hear the other side of the story before I get too excited about anything else SHE claims to have happened to her.
I seriously doubt she's even on Obama's radar. He's trying to get the troops OUT of Iraq. Iraq was BUSH'S war, not his. This probably has more to do with crowd size that any kind of conspiracy.
As long as the ignorant steaming pile known as the "Unitary Executive" is still accepted theory by our highest Court, I fully expect that these abuses will continue to get worse.
People in a little town in Vermont are getting thrown into Chimpy's gulag now for walking across the street to get a pizza (in a small Canadian town.) I'm not exaggerating-YOU CAN GET ARRESTED for walking across the street to pick up a pizza.
Welcome to Comrade Chimpy's USSA, destined to suffer the same fate as Comrade Stalin's USSR. And maybe that isn't all bad.
What is deplorable is how most of Cindy's support from liberals evaporated following Obama's election. Now I read blogs where liberals call her a nut and a media-hound, same as their fellow scumbags on the right did.
I had the pleasure of meeting her at a SF peace march. What an exhausted but committed and wonderful person she is.The damn Democrats aren't good enough to deserve her.
Eddie: Your statements against Sheehan are just plain silly. She has a lot more credibility than anyone in the corporate media or the Obama administration. She has always shown the utmost integrity. President Obama and his administration have lied to us as much as the Bush regime did.
Your facts also are wrong.
1) Obama easily could have withdrawn all troops and mercenaries from Iraq during the first three or four months of his presidency. The fact that they are still there means that this is now Obama's war.
2) Obama has actually increased the total number of occupying forces (troops and mercenaries) in Iraq over what Bush had there. He is doing the exact opposite of trying to get us out of Iraq.
Jolly: Yes, the Unitary Executive ideology (which is a euphemism for "dictatorship") is truly dangerous.
Oso: People are socialized with spectator sports to pick teams and show unthinking loyalty to them. Liberals who are rational and base their views on facts, rather than partisan alliances, strongly support Ms. Sheehan.
i swear if you slept through Nov 2008-Jan 2009 you would NEVER know there was an election when it comes to many of Bush's criminal policies
meet the new boss, same as the old....

For a guy named after a replaceable plastic car part-you're pretty smart:)
Cindy S. isn't perfect, but she is dedicated. Further, she's not the point, and we see evidenced here, in these comments, the success of the establishment tactic of steering people to focus on her rather than on the issue. Sneaky, eh?
Damn! That's a fine way of characterizing the administration of Bush III.
