From the Institute of Southern Studies:
Rep. Joe Wilson is getting his 15 minutes of national fame after bellowing "you lie!" during President Obama's health care address last night. But Wilson earned notoriety in his home state of South Carolina in the late 1990s when, as a state legislator, he was one of the staunchest defenders of flying the Confederate battle flag over the state capitol.
The Confederacy was treason against the United States of America, no ifs, no ands, no buts, and no excuses. Anyone who condones, much less endorses the Confederacy, is anti American. Anyone who is a US citizen who does this is unpatriotic.
Wilson's complete and long lasting disloyalty to our country needs a lot more media coverage.
Redneck southerners are proud of their heritage of hatred, bigotry and terror! Wilson is just carrying on that tradition...
ZING! I'd like to hear the comeback to THAT one.
I completely agree with you. Joe Wilson knew exactly what he was doing, when he did it and probably even before he did it.
As you pointed out, it wasn't just that single moment of exasperated emotion during the prez's address. It's other things he's done as well, indicative of an anti-American sentiment.
Thanks for this post.
