When is this country going to face reality and ban private gun ownership? How many more people are going to have to be robbed, raped, and murdered before we do?

There are some legitimate uses of guns, like for farmers or ranchers who are protecting livestock. I have to mention that I went to a rifle range this weekend (in Chelsea, no less), and, well, it was fun. Target shooting, skeet shooting...doesn't bother me. Automatic weapons? WTF? No one needs those. Long and short, banning will make this country explode, but reasonable regulation...no reason not to have it. None at all.
Pissed: In the 19th Century, farmers needed guns to protect livestock. That simply isn't the case in the 21st centry. Times have changed.
As for target shooting, you may find it enjoyable. However, keep in mind thad that the same system that allows you to do target shooting puts guns in the hands of robbers, rapists, and murderers. You should ask yourself if target shooting is really so important to you that you are willing to make that tradeoff. This is especially the case when there are so many video games and laser tag games.
As for making "this country explode," there certainly are people who make threats of violence or who throw hysterical fits of rage at the thoughts of losing their guns. Law enforcement really needs to start prosecuting the people who make the threats. The ones you lose all reason at the thought of the minor inconvenience fo not being able to have guns are dangerously mentally ill and need to be institutionalized for their safety and the safety of those around them. You can be certain that most rabid gun nuts are guilty of domestic violence because they have the same mindset as people who abuses spouses and children.
Getting rid of automatic weapons would be a good small step forward. It wouldn't stop these mass shootings, but it would reduce the number of people who get killed, which is better than nothing. It would reduce, in a small way, the nearly 30,000 deaths that result from guns every year in our society.
However, we need to ban guns to dramatically reduce the rest.
It never ceases to amaze me that banning guns is even controversial. It is such a logical, productive, and sensible idea that violates the rights of no one and obstructs the needs of no one.
