That's the kind of headline you should be seeing in every major newspaper in this country. No one can honestly dispute it on a factual level. However, racism and the influence of corporate interests such as arms merchants and Big Oil keep the corporate media spinning Israel's latest heinous act of terrorism, just as they spin every terrorist act by Israel. Here's the lead paragraph from Alternet (5/31/10), an independent news source, that takes facts and journalistic integrity seriously.

Days of tension between Israel’s hawkish government and the organizers of the Freedom Flotilla carrying 700 peace activists and 10,000 tons of desperately needed supplies to Gaza culminated in grisly carnage after a deadly pre-dawn attack by Israeli commandos. The operation left between nine and 19 international activists dead and dozens more injured and bleeding on the decks of the civilian vessels.

Hillary Clinton and other war hawks here in the US go on about how Iran supposedly sponsors terrorism in efforts to try to incite an attack and eventual invasion of that country, but they refuse to acknowledge the fact that Israel commits more acts of terrorism than Iran is accused of sponsoring. Iran must not have a nuclear weapon, according to this narrative, but it is perfectly OK for the terrorist state of Israel to have nuclear weapons, despite the fact that they got their nuclear capabilities by launching a terrorist attack against a US naval ship. There is no excuse for our government to provide foreign aid to the terrorist regime in Israel.

  1. Lew Scannon Says:
  2. The Symington Amendment (Google it!) makes it illegal for the US to give any aid to countries that possess nuclear weapons (like Israel!)and refuse to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Furthermore, while other countries are demanding the release of their citizens President Obama says he'll "study" the situation. What's to study?
Public funding of our elections will remove Aipac's influence over our congress and help us to elect politicians who will put America and Americans first.

  3. Lew Scannon Says:
  4. Furthermore, any attack against a NATO member ship in international war, under Article 5 of the NATO charter, is a deliberate attack against NATO itself and every nation is compelled to retaliate against the provocateur. So, Israel just attacked NATO. What's the president going to do about that?rotums

  5. Jimmy Says:
  6. Israel's behavior is disgusting.

  7. GDAEman Says:
  8. Lew, since when did the establishment follow the laws they write to maintain their control over the unwashed masses? That said, it's always a good idea to call them on it. Your point about de-fanging AIPAC is the best incentive I've heard for working on campaign finance reform. Great points by the way.

  9. Lew: Won't hold my breath about this government doing anything Israel doesn't want. All 600 peace activitists who aren't dead are being held in prison, no? I heard there are 40 Britons among them--don't know about the others. Interesting that it's difficult to determine who was killed or injured, no? Now what is the UK gov't going to do for their 40 citizens? And Germany, Denmark, France, Turkey? I think Israel wants to hold them long enough for the story to die down, because their bullshit tales of the activists attacking the soldiers as they peacefully boarded the ships will fall apart with the first televised interview.

  10. Oso Says:
  11. Lew,
Wow, good info. I'd known about the illegality of giving aide to nuclear non-NPT signatory nations, although not its formal name.
But the NATO article 5-great work in passing this on.

  12. TomCat Says:
  13. Lib, I consider this an act of piracy. We need to cut the purse strings and stop enabling terrorist acts in the UN Security Council.

Lew, thanks for the great info!
